Part of the saloio residence, the 'outhouse' is an area by the ground-floor entrance that leads to the kitchen and other parts of the house, such as the bedrooms, cellar or storage rooms. It usually had simple wooden corner cupboards and, if there were two floors, a connecting staircase to the upper floor where the bedrooms were located.
Night-time commendation
I'm going to bed now
My door will close,
I have no one to wait for.
I hope that our Lord
Will be with me.
Upon this bed I lie,
For whom I cannot see.
I weep for Our Lady
Who will accompany me.
Upon this bed I lie,
With this blanket covering me.
If death comes for me,
Heaven's angels please help me.
Upon this bed I lie,
Seven angels I have found,
Three at the foot, four at the top.
Our Lady tells me, from the front:
- Let yourself be well rested,
That I am here guarding you.
With God I lie,
With God I rise,
In the grace of God
And Divine Holy Spirit.
Before God, peace in His guidance,
God is with me,
God guards and protects me
Asleep, and as I dream,
Burning fire, cursing mouth,
Of the bad man and the bad woman,
From all evil and danger
