To eat is also to travel, and to travel is to get to know the places and the people that inhabit them. Cascais, a destination for kings and fishermen, Portuguese and foreign tourists, is a place for people from the mountains and from the sea, with a unique gastronomic heritage from the crossing of multiple cultures and traditions.
Recipes from Kings and Fishermen takes us on a guided tour of close to 80 recipes with different origins and characteristics, all chosen with a 'taste' of Cascais. From the dishes which best represent this municipality's gastronomic traditions to the modern reinterpretations of some of these same traditions, we rediscover the importance of fish and shellfish, poultry and game, cakes and cookies.
Indulge yourself with the famous 'areias' and 'nozes', with the dishes enjoyed by King Carlos I, or with unique historical episodes, such as when a Lord of Cascais promised to pay Luís de Camões with stuffed chickens in exchange for poems.
